I've decided to install Linux on my machine, and I can't make up my mind about which distro to use.

debian and puppy are my favorite flavor but if your new to linux, mint is a good desktop os

Thanks, I appreciate the suggestions, I'll try out puppy linux, if I don't like that, I'll try peppermint or mint.
If you're new to Linux I wouldn't recommend installing it too hastily - one of the beautiful things about open source is there is an incredible amount of variety and choice - the only downside is you can be underwhelmed or overwhelmed quite quickly. If you have a USB drive or spare external (preferably 8GB or more) get YUMI multiboot creator and download several linux "Live CD"s of the flavors you would like check out..I personally recommend Mint 13, Debian, openSUSE, BodhiLinux and pcBSD to start.
Just load up the ISO's onto your USB stick and boot into the various live environments until you find something you and like, then launch the installer and away you go.
maybe you should try some distros in virtual machine, im using vmware's player, virtual box is good alternative too.
