What's the benefit of using a VPN service instead of Tor?

Hello,

I've been aiming to increase my internet security, and I have some ideas planned. I was considering buying PIA, but then came across the idea of using the Raspberry Pi as a Tor Proxy. What's the benefits of one over the other? Obviously for the Tor Client I won't have to pay extra for a service, but what are the differences in terms of security?

Thanks everyone,

You could use both, but you're better off with a VPN only if you need any level of performance. Anyone expecting much out of Tor should really study it before using it. Their own website does a pretty decent job at explaining its caveats.
