What's Dual/Quad Channel Memory?

Hey guys, I'd like to ask if I add two sticks of G-Skill RipJaws X 1866MHz CL9 4GB into a MSI 970A-G46 motherboard which only supports dual channel. Can I add another two sticks? Or should I get the 4 sticks version of it?

I'm confused cause I don't know what's the difference and I'm afraid if I buy two more sticks it might not work and it would be a waste of money.

Here's my build.

CPU: AMD FX6300

Motherboard: MSI 970A-G46

Memory: G-Skill RipJaws X 1866MHz CL9 8GB (2 X 4GB)

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 64MB

Video Card: XFX 7870 2GB GDDR5 1GHz

Case: Fractal Design Core 3000

PSU: Seasonic S12II 620W 80+ Bronze Certified

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Thanks!

yes, you can. the color-pair slots share memory channels, 2 slots per channel.

So I can add 4 sticks of 4GB RAM and it would work?

If you have 4 slots on your motherboard, then yes.

Alright thanks guys!
