So I am having a Hard time picking out a Motherboard. I thought I picked out the Asus Tuf Mark I. [Went to Microcenter and bought it with a 7700k, But realized I could get it for $40 less online. So will be returning it.]
And Now [Again] I am debating between the
Asus TUF Mark I
Gigabyte Aorus K7
Willing to hear suggestions on any motherboard. But nothing has Said "BUY ME" yet. I was looking at the TUF mark 2 but learned that is a 7 hole ATX board. and I was not to keen on that. along with the power phase. I was hopping to stay around $150 but Not sure.
I have looked at the GIGABYTE Aorus GA-Z270X-Gaming 7 due to the creative audio chipset. But I have heard that the Gigabyte boards don't OC well. But that could be Fanboy speech. Pretty well set on getting a 7700k and I have 1x8GB corsair ddr4 2666 stick. I will drop a Speccy of my current rig. But 70% of what I do is Play games, 10% is Watch media, 10% is Web browsing, and 10% Server Mangment. I usally run Discord and 8-10 chrome tabs in the back ground. I do plan on OCing the chip 24/7 which is one reason I picked the TUF, along with my current Mobo is also a TUF board
Here Is my current rig. Biggest reason for the want for a upgrade is cpu seems to be pegging out while my 1060 is chilling at 30%-50% usage.
.
Both boards are basiclly fine.
Gigabyte had a couple of bios issues with core voltages at the start.
But i suppose that they probablly have fixed their issues by now.
Of course if you decide to go with the Gigabyte board, the make sure you update the UEFi / bios firstly.
I would personally go with the Asus Z270 Sabertooth Mark1 regardless.
Allthough the Gigabyte Gaming K7 probablly has nicer onboard audio.
I personally like the Sabertooth better in terms of vrm implementation and looks.
But never the less both boards have a very capable vrm for overclocking.
Yea, Thought about it for awhile, Got the TUF board again. Is there any batches of 7700k chips that are known better than the others? Microcenter chip is a L640
Yeah i think if you google on batches of Kabylake chips,
you will probably find certain serial batches that overclock slightly better.
But i think that a large number of Kabylake chips are capable to reach 5Ghz.
I'd be really tempted to find a 3770K or Xeon 1290v2 and overclock. Those would be a drop in upgrade and do a very nice impression of a 7700K in a Z77 motherboard.
If you're going to the trouble of upgrading the motherboard I'd go with Ryzen and AM4.
Actully the z77 board will be going to my brother who has a 3770k, his board is unstable. But like I said above, I primarily Game on my computer, So I would rather have the 10% gains over the ryzen chips in gaming, also the Motherboard selection is kinda crap for AM4 right now. [TUF fanboy and no TUF boards] I did some research because He offered me his i7 chip, but he wants to run win7 and Plays almost no games. So me upgrading made more sense. But if I am bottle-necking my 3750k, The 3770k Is not going to due much better in terms of gaming. [also mutiple benchmarks only show like 5% gains in gaming, I would see closer to 28%/30% for the 7700k] 3570k is also OCed to 4.2. Also he is "paying" me to do the work on his system so my like $500 upgrade is really like a $350 upgrade. But If ryzen pulls ahead or gets with in 8% on gaming I will sell and switch. [once the boards are better]
You might see a slight edge in some games with the 7700K. I don't think anyone would notice the difference between Kaby lake and Ryzen for gaming. The two chips are really close in gaming performance.
I'd probably go with the lowest priced Z270 board. Or Z170 for that.
Also a very nice Z270 board in my opinion is the Asrock Z270 Super Carrier.
That is really an awesome board with a beastly vrm design.
its one of the better overclocker boards.
It also comes with a plx chip.
Not sure what its price is atm, but its probablly expensive.
The Asrock Z270 Taichi or Asrock Z270 Professional Gaming are also a pretty decent board.
