What to get?

Okay so the new GTX 900s are out and I've decided its time for an upgrade but im not quite sure what to get.

I've been thinking about going with a 980 and then upgrading to an sli-config in the future. I'd also like to overclock so I'll need some extra headroom on the PSU.

I'm not sure which motherboard or CPU to get though. I've been thinking of going with the amd 8350 but it seems kinda cheap for such an expensive build. I've also been thinking of the i7 4790K but again I'm not sure.

For the motherboard I just want something that can overclock a bit and hold all my stuff.

btw this will be mostly for gaming.

Any suggestions are welcome.

What's your budget?

What country are you in?

Do you need a keyboard, monitor, headset, mouse, or operating system?

You said upgrade, so what do you already have?

I meant build a pc then upgrade later. I only have a laptop at the moment.

I live in Denmark and my budget would be around 1500-2000$. Might be more, might be less. prices are a lot different here.

I've got all the peripherals i need.

No idea how to link the shopping cart, here is a pic of what you could do

I would go with a 970 though, its almost half the price of a 980 for you for some reason,

the case depends on what you like of course (if it fits everything), if you really want to. You also could go with a a little cheaper psu, but you dont need to with your budged.

You also need some storage, no idea how much you need. You could go with a small boot ssd and a hdd or a 500gb or so ssd.

Not sure you can link the shopping cart ha. Anyway the reason why im even thinking of the 980 is because i wanna end up with the power of 2 980s in sli. I know the 970 is alot cheaper but i'd probably need 3 and that would be 3way sli which i've heard should be quite terrible.

I switched a few parts out and checked with pricerunner(not sure if you know it but it basically finds the lowest price) ended up with the same price for these parts: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zqnVLk

I should mention I already have a 120gb and a 240gb sdd. Anyways I apprieciate having options so thanks.

Thanks dude.

This looks very promising and its probably pretty close to what i'm gonna end up with. I changed a few parts though: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zqnVLk. the corsair 1000w is the same price as the 850w version in my country for some reason and with upgrading to 2 980s in the future I thought that made sense. Do you know how much power i'd need for a 2way 980 config? I tried some calculators but they all say around 550-650 which doesnt seem right.

A overclocked 4790k system will generally use under 200w on full load while being overclocked ( without the gpus). A overclocked 980 can have a peak power usage of maybe 250w on full load, so the worst case screnario would be maybe around 700w. A good 850W psu is enough, but if the 1000w is the same price.....why not?

current system configuration with Sli 980s wattage at idle will be 550w ... and I have never heard of a problem from having an overkill PSU

I would recommend against the little Corsair AIO cooler ... loud and not very efficient ... A Noctua D14 or D15 will cool better and quieter

And I would recommend an SSD for your boot drive ... a Samsung 850 pro has a ten year warranty that is hard to beat ... but their evo drive is cheaper and has a three year warranty

EDit ... and holy cow ... that case is expensive

Yeah I might change the cpu-cooler. I have 2 ssds that I'm gonna use so that wont be necessary. About the case: Its MUCH cheaper in Denmark for some reason(150$ish(take in to account that everything costs more)) also I might be able to get it from a friend who wants to upgrade to the 800D.

Just as a general recommendation on cases... the Fractal Design Define R4 has a plastic front, the rest is steel... and fairly thick gauge steel at that, also muted with dampening... the Corsair cases are nice in and of themselves but just don't compare to Fractal's build quality... I also think (strictly personal) they look better... but a case is a case and get what you want...

If you want watercooling, get watercooling... though I will say I prefer NZXT's options and if sound is a problem buy a Noctua, Enermax, or Phanteks fan

It seems like I'm dogging Corsair but I'm not... their budget products are much better than other budget products, and I like some of their mid-tier PSUs... they're great to decent quality around the board... but as far as high-end goes, there's other companies that do pretty much everything do a little better
