Well this christmas i will be looking to improve my gaming setup. And im not sure what to get. I'll get $200 item(s) and $100 item(s). My current setup includes a gtx 480, i5-3470, and a 6 year old WD 75GB 5400 RPM drive for my main internal/boot, But for most of my storage i use a 750gb seagate goflex (external), which is running out of space ever so quickly. Also i have a cheap $5 mouse and keyboard. For my monitor i have a 16:9 20" monitor, which is kinda small for me.
Anyway, im trying to decide between a few items for my pc:
A: another gtx 480 ( my mobo supports it and i have a capable power supply)
I'd probably go with BC in your place, to be frank. setting up SLI and then dealing with all the games that don't work with it on launch.. Not sure. Plus, a single gtx480 is, afaik, capable enough to run modern games at 1080p in decent quality/speed. Not sure if another one will really improve things for you all that much (though I have to ask, what framerates do you consider 'good'? above 30? above 60? above 120?).
Changing the system disk from a 5400 to an ssd will be a very noticeable change, and I'd say it's worth it. the 3TB disk, though, when you already have an external solution? Idk.. Maybe you can match the monitor, the ssd and a razerthing of choice instead? Sort of a Bcd mix?
well, on my steam account right now i have around 220 games, also i have many other games from other retailers such as amazon. Also i would like to start recording more gameplay, which requires more space. In short i need a shit ton of space and my external 750 gb isn't even touching the space i would like. The only reason im even thinking about the razor mouse and keyboard is because the ones im using right now blow harder than some pornstars lol. Also is buying a mechanical keyboard instead of membrane is really worth it?
And a little side note, what i consider playable is 40+, although i normally prefer 60. Anything above that is a waste
Mkay, in that case A is absolutely redundant. Cannot say anything about mechanical keyboards, the ones based on the usual membranes are.. well, you have used them, you know how they are - not pleasant, but do the job. You can get the mouse/kb things later, there's plenty of gaming mice in all priceranges - just save up for it later, and go for the BC choice for now.
say that now but trust me when i say once you have it youll never look back. the only other valid option on the list is the last one and its really not that huge of a change. id go with BC
Either AB or BC. If you really, really need the space then go with BC, because if you have a GTX 480 already and don't have a 1080p monitor, then you're doing it wrong.
If you don't necessarily need the space then go with AB.
It sounds like hard drive space might be a more pertinent issue in this situation though, and a single GTX 480 will be able to run most games just fine. I would personally probably go for BC and then save up my money for a GTX 700 or HD 8000 series.
B 1/2C you might not end up needing the 3TB but an SSD is always helpful with load times and installations. My Vertex 3 is awesome and I love it :D Also a single 480 should be fine for most games especially if you aren't considering playing at 2560x1440 on max.
