So my prize laptop is something you guys would laugh at. An Asus G50VT-X5. Something I have mentioned before, something I have been working on making amazing for the last few… Uhhhh years? Well I’m pretty much there. General specs are:
C2D E8315 - 2.4GHz - 6MB cache
4GB 800mhz DDR2 Ram
64GB Samsung PM800 SSD Boot Drive
500GB HGST Secondary “Home” Drive
Nvidia 9800MGS 512MB
And a completely rebuilt cooling system with a giant fan out of an imac that used to cool a bigass ATI GPU.
Generally my temps stay stupidly low unless I play ARMA2 or something, which it surprisingly handles pretty well. The only upgrades I have left is 70 bucks on a 1680X1050 panel, 50 bucks (maybe) on a Nvidia GT260M, and POSSIBLY some cash on ripping the lights out and doing some obnoxious RGB lighting.
Now, I have some questions. I really really want to use it for stuff. I used to use it as an editing machine running OSX and rolling final cut as well as kdenlive. Now though… I’m not sure what to do. Do I run linux? Do I run OSX still? Do I run windows? Windows constantly slows down to dead, linux is meh for NV support, and OSX runs amazingly. Now I only recently added the SSD, so with TRIM would it make windows not shit? I have no total goals for it. Do some dev, video editing, games. Normal shit for me. I just can’t decide a system is all. Maybe I just be that guy and run Haiku on it or some dumb shit. I dunno.
Wat do.
