What surge protector should I get? (Why does no one discuss this?)

What surge protector should I get I need recommendations. I have quite a bit of expensive hardware and am building my battle station in the next few months. I don't want to use a cheap surge protector from Walmart. I am a fan of Monster products so please link any recommendations you have. Don't understand why this isn't a more discussed topic to me it is a very important part of a setup to keep your hardware safe from power fluctuations and preventing damage.

It's purely a matter of how much you want to spend. If your electric is known to blink, go out, and/or surge, then you're going to want to spend more than someone who's never had a single power problem in their life. Personally I'd pick up a UPS, not just a surge protector. How big and expensive of a UPS depends on how much you care about your hardware and, again, how bad your power is.

My power is not that bad at all but when it comes to protecting my equipment nothing is to much I would like to spend around $100 or less but will pay anything if its worth it.

please stop . nothing they have ever produced was ever worth the mark up. all. ALL of their products can be bought cheaper. its all hype, not quality.

any cheap surge protector from a derpartment store (also please stop spending your money at wally world) will do what you want it to do. which is shut shit off before it gets damaged. they are basically just another circuit breaker inline. if you want actual good clean power you need a UPS with conditioning. which is not cheap, and if monster makes one, gawd.. gotta see that POS.

So my UPS has surge protection built in. And I still had a power surge take out my power supply. So they aren't completely fool proof

what you want is a UPS

Doesn't matter anything reliable.

Normal single PC I'd recommend.....

Just be sure to match you wattage draw to the rated output of the UPS and you'll be fine, I use to use APC UPSs but found the battery life to be crap on most of the lower end models (about 12 - 16 months), switched to CyberPower a few years ago and I'm still waiting for my first failure we have 6 of the 1000va models ranging from 2 years+ to 6 months old, all work as expected.

I've been looking at purchasing the following:

It is supposed to have 'pure sine wave' output as opposed to a stepped wave. I've heard a few people say that the stepped waves can damage power supplies. I'm not going to say that this is absolutely true, as I'm not an EE. I just don't mind spending an extra hundred bucks to protect my +$1300 rig.

I've just been using one of those cheapo power strips with a built in surge protector, I've had some pretty big power surges from ligtning and the such plus my house was built in the early 50's so the furnace kicking on and things like that also cause surges, my pc is doing just fine. Unless if you want one of those fancy surge protectors that will keep your stuff on during a bad surge or a power outage I wouldn't recommend spending more than 10 bucks.

I had a APC UPS and the battery died and it would not stop alarming most annoying thing ever I had to break it to get it to stop.

Perhaps this? I want to get one (or similar) for my up and coming build.

Those are European outlets I live in America. I'm thinking about this $15 Monster surge protector I saw I already have a $50 12 outlet over sized heavy duty one for my TV and surround system and love it every thing is heavy duty on it.

This is the one I'm thinking about for my computer.

This is the one I have for my TV and love it. Plus it has a warranty that will replace your items if it fails to protect them.

DoDon't trust monster products. They are sub par.

I would get this

APC is as reliable as it gets at least in my experience. You can't cheap out on something that's passing powrr to your computer. It's nearly as bad as getting a shitty psu.

my APC UPS didnt stop a surge from taking out my power supply

Well, it's not like any other manufacturer could've prevented that. Some things just happen even when they're not intended. We unplug our crap regardless during a storm anyway.

The weather up here in Colorado is terrible a lot of the time. We can't really prevent storms from taking out what's plugged in no matter the ups or surge protector.

yeah i am in wyoming now and just one storm came in and hit a bunch of stuff on the same circuit in the house.

Can't really protect against that lolv

I live in Florida never really have power problems much it seems pretty consistent. Maybe once to twice a month the power will flicker where I have to reset the clock on the stove and the modem reboots. To me there is nothing to expensive to protect my equipment I mean all together I have over $4,000 worth of electronics plugged in my room. The only reason I like monster is their cables are thicker than most and they have a $120,000 warranty on everything plugged into their surge protector properly, that being said I have no idea what hoops you would have to jump through to make a claim on it. A UPS isn't something I really need not to worried about losing data if the computer shuts off I mean that's really the only reason to have one but will get one if it protects my computer and stuff better.

imagine this: power goes out, and you finish your round of gaming. or at least have enough time to save your school work. or it was just a small blip in the power so your system doesnt reboot over it. UPSes are nice things to have. if you run on coax for internet, many can even back that up as well.
