I'm looking to add more storage space to my computer. I was wondering what should I look for in a good drive. I'm looking for 2 different drives:
- HDD to backup and store infrequently accessed files and backups
- SSD to dedicate to Linux. plan to dual boot windows and Linux
I'm looking to spend about $100 on them, and I just do not want a here is a good one response. I would like to know why its a good pick for what I want, or info so I can pick it my self.
The way I pick drives is first I look at the reviews and if a drive has a lot of reviews I will read the worst ones first to see what was bad with it. The second is I pick a good brand that I hear nothing but good reviews with for me that was Samsung and Western digital. Then I look at the drives spacificaly what drives are good what drives are bad (stay away from green) then I look at my use case and I go with a drive that was geared for that specific purpose gaming black, surveillance purple etc. etc. At least that is my method anyway.
Well you're basically only going to get one good drive or 2 shitty drives.
you could get a 1TB WD Black if you want a 5 year warrenty
a 2TB WD RED if you don't mind the drop in speed and want something to run 24/7
As for the SSD you could look for a really cheap 480gb one or get a decent 240gb one, maybe a Sandisk Ultra II
