What should i get 1080 or titan x (pascal)

i have two gtx780ies and I ordered an Asus Strix GTX 1080 OC edition, but since the order was delayed i have canceled it.
now i am thinking about getting the new Titan X (pascal) instead of the 1080.

i wanted the strix because of the good cooling on it but the titan x has the blower fans not sure i like that...

the price tag for the cards are not the problem. i just cant make up my mind about it.

so i am interested in hearing what you guys thing about it?

why would you want either of them.

i want to upgrade and i prefer Nvidia so i might as well go all out on it..

There is a rumor about an Nvidia event... Wait a couple of days and see what this is all about...
Otherwise Titan is faster, but it's 1200$... But you know that already.

Yep, stuff is happening

Wait for after the Nvidia event and if the 1080 and Titan X(P) are still the two choices after, the Titan X(P) will be the faster choice although the price is up to you whether its worth it or not.

Meh... 2 things: How much RAM do you currently have and what resolution do you game at? If you got 4GB cards and game up to 1440... you should be able to limp along for a little while.

Basically, unless you want to do 4k or some new VR bullshit, or want DX12 for some unknown reason... you don't need a new card.

I'd just wait and get a 10 series card used at a steep discount, or save up for whatever is next.

780's were only 3GB and there were some very rare 6GB cards right before the 780 was phased out. 3GB is no longer good for more than 1080p really.

Let's just point out, a single 780 is slower than a single 1060, and the sli scaling not being 100% means he may be getting lesser than a 1070 grade of performance in games. In games that don't have proper SLI support he will have less than a single 1060's worth in performance, and in some games the 3GB of V-Ram could be problematic. I do also have to admit that a bit less than a 1060 level of performance isn't bad but if he wants to play at high resolutions or new titles at high frame rates, a 780 really doesn't make it. Idk if I would make the jump but his current setup is definitely aging and may no longer be sufficient.

I have dual 770s only 2GB and I'm limping along fine but I only game at 1200. Yeah I have to turn textures down a little in a few games.

My point is that it's a lot of money to upgrade to the latest right now. I'd recommend stretching it out another generation. The 1080ti is coming!

id say wait for a rx 490 or 1080 ti. I really wouldnt recommend the titan x pascal.

1080ti. remember how upset all the titan X maxwell people were when 980ti happened?

titan x pee for sure, it's the way games are meant to be played

With the way NVIDIA dropped the gtx 780 not sure why OP would go back. Almost like coming back to an abusive spouse after they said "this time it will be different"

hmm.. Nvidia event.. then i guess its best to wait alittle.. but i kinda doubt nvidia will announce 1080ti so soon after 1080 release.. but lets see what happens :) thanks to everyone that responsed

I suppose if price was not a limiting factor for me when looking at gtx 1080 vs Titan for my rig, my next question would be if there is much of a noticeable performance gain with the Games/Programs that I will use it for, I would also ask myself how a 1080p SLI compares to the Titan. Depending how badly you want to upgrade and if Nvidia indeed has any announcements soon, those would be some of the main things I'd consider.

I would not really buy any of the two... the Titan X is a scam at its price and the 1080 is not worth it because it is obvious that a 1080ti will be coming up soon.

I would just wait until 1080ti or the 490 are out and chose between them. Especially because there will probably be 3rd party cards for the two and you will not have to tolerate the founders/reference cooling.

Probably the best thing to do if you want a card at that price point. That being said...Do you really want a card at this price point..Make sure that your gaming habits require such card. Even if money are not an issue it would still be a waste of money to by a card that is overkill for your needs.
