What should I do with my old server?

In my room under a desk is an HP Proliant ML370 (I believe a Gen 4 so 2008/2010) with 2 dual core xeons clocked at 3.4 GHZ. No PCIe either. I believe its supposed to be a storage array but it can be whatever I want it to be minus a GPU because its a desktop server. I honestly have 0 ideas for it as the 2 drives I have for it are rather tiny. One is an 18 GB drive and the other is 38 or 42. Somewhere around there. Also I don't know if its the most recent SCSi or SAS. I'm going to guess SAS though. Also it has 4 GB ram. I believe it was just an FTP server but I know it was at a local ISP that got foreclosed on.

I do have the ability to get more drives and trays for it and it has 2 good, I believe they were replaced when I got it in HS, redundant PSU's. I don't think I'll use it at my parents house (where I am now) because when I was initially using it our power bill went up 50 bucks .-.'''' I wasn't aware of this until recently when I asked.

So, if anyone has a cool idea I am all ears. I was thinking get some 160 GB drives and slap them all in there, maybe SSD's if such a thing were to exist, and use it as an ISO and game storage server for windows ISO's and linux ISO's as well as games and their files.

I also have with it a backup tape drive and a 100GB tape, its an ultrium 3, and I'm not sure what to do with that or how to use it.

Also I was thinking of doing something really stupid like put windows 7 on it lol. I know it's a no no though :P

I built myself a multimedia top box under win7, twin cpu, 16GB DDr2 (server type) and a regular NVidia 8800. I get much better pic on 4k than with Boxee or others. I mean 1090p upscaled to 4k. I used a 160GB HDD. my use, and i like the pic and the browser access possibilities. Thats what I did !!!!!!!

Install ESXI and run multiple VMs, its a fun way to experiment with virtualization.

Meh. I don't really have a use for it :T

Donate me the PSU ;)

Donate my ass.

I'd say that's a lot of power and electricity usage for just having a storage server unless you're going to run PLEX or the like.

Unfortunately I'm in a somewhat similar situation. Got some hardware that uses a lot of power but no real reason to use it 24/7. As long as I got some NAS that can do basic tasks like torrenting and serve mediatomb & samba I'm good. Don't even need redundancy, so am just using a laptop with gigabit LAN and an external over USB3.

I was thinking, what about SSL observatory or something?

All that stuff is to old and power hungry. donate to your local computer donation facility or try to sell on CL as a "student learning device"
