I am looking to upgrade from 16GB to 32GB of RAM, my mobo is the ASRock Z97 Extreme6 (http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/z97%20extreme6).
I've been wandering around the web checking out speeds, timings and prices...
My usage will be having VisualStudio, Unity, PHPStorm, Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, Blender, WebGL on Windows 10 x64.
I'm not interested in overclocking, would I even notice the difference between 32GB of 1866mhz and 32GB of 2200mhz DDR3 Ram? Is it worth the extra cash?
You really won't see any performance difference going from 1066mhz to 3000mhz in those workloads. Just grab what is cheapest at the capacity you need. Cas Latency is important but its not going to make any real noticeable difference. No reason to pay $20 more to go from 1866mhz to 2200mhz, unless you really, really want the ascetic.
I think that any kit 1866 CL9 has a pretty good balance between speeds and CAS latency. That kit looks pretty good but it's kinda pricy too. Take a look at some G.Skill RAM, they're usually cheaper but same quality as other brands (bought an 1866 CL9 G.Skill Sniper 2x4GB kit and it's working flawlessly on my Maximus VII Hero. Corsair Vengeance LP 1600 CL9 was total garbage).
g.skill. i think it's all basically the same within the main brand sticks. off brand/less reputable brands i wouldnt even bother because g.skill is usually pretty cheap
I had good memory from Samsung and Hynix but when it comes down to maximum reliability I would recommend Kingston.
Gamery kinds of memory in flashy colors or all black with RGBS ... make sure that stuff works by looking at the support list, maybe even ask the board manufacturer. ASRock should be able to give you solid answers.
