What on earth are you reading?

so, i was wondering what most of you are reading. do you have any good books to share? post your reading recommendations here. i have a kindle that needs filling y'know :D

I read a lot... and Little Viking reads a lot too. What styles are you into? Fantasy, science fiction, non-fiction, biography, etc.... let us know.

Off the top of my head here are my recent reads and recommendations:

Science Fiction: Perdido Street Station by China Mieville (It's really weird and really dark)

Fantasy: A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin (best series of books EVER)

Modern marketing: What Would Google Do? by Jeff Jarvis

Biography: iWoz by Steve Wozinack with Gina Smith

Let me know what you like and I can give you better suggestions.

Sword of Shannara an Epic Fantasy by Terry Brooks

You remember that game called Metro 2033?

Well I've just started reading the book that the game was based on.

+1 on A Song of Ice and Fire.

Sci-fie wise...I'm a huge William Gibson fan...love his writing style.

Lately I've been reading a lot of Joe Abercrombie's stuff. Good, gritty fantasy. Doesn't require to much thinking, just fun reads.

Also, if you want some refreshing Sci-Fie, look up Infoquake . It really is an interesting and fun read.

I'll be honest and say that i haven't had a good read in a long, long while. All I used to read from sixth form up until now was just course material. I used to read a lot when i was younger, history and world culture (non-fiction), Christopher Pike, Phule's Company series, Nikolai Dante (fiction) come to mind. I generally like quirky, tongue in cheek stories but I'm willing to broaden (at least make a start) my reading horizons. I'm currently making a start on the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and The Destroyer series.

Well I havn't done any free reading in a long time course reading removes all my patience to actually reading for enjoyment

snow crash.... great book. fucking read it.

Hmm, some interesting sci fi:

Ender's Game (the rest of the books in the series get progressively worse after Speaker for the Dead imho)

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

The Foundation (hard to get into because the characters keep changing around, but interesting plot).

Mind-bending things:

The Plague--Camus

The Trial--Kafka (starting to feel more and more relevant)

Brave New World--Huxley (^ditto)

The Master and Margarita--Bulgakov (one of my favorites)

A Wild Sheep Chase--Murakami

Non fiction:

Supersizing the Mind

The Bad Popes

The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat

Are You Smart Enough to Work at Google? (Just picked this up yesterday)

+1 on Snow Crash. Neil Stephensen in general is very good.

I read these two from cover to cover a couple of years back,

Read 'Brave New World' a couple of weeks back. Always had that book in my to read list, finally got round to finish reading it and was just left weirded out thinking is this the future of the human species?

Presently, having a read through this. Pretty good read so far.

I'm really happy that I'm actually reading for pleasure every now and again, feels good
