What monitor to get / look out for?

I am about to move in a short while, in that process I consider selling my 3 monitors and just get 1 much better monitor instead. Would be way easier to set up.

Question is, which one? Or whats on the way worth to wait for?
Lately I seen quite a lot of interesting options, but I can’t seem to find one that 100% fits what I would like.

Above 32 inch (my current monitor is 32 and I want a larger one next)
Displayport (I love the locking connection)
Picture in Picture (because it will replace 3 monitors, so that i can have different sources on 1 monitor is ideal)
Above 144hz (my current one is 144hz and i love it)
Very color correct, I do edit video and draw quite a lot, so this is pretty crucial
USB-C charging with 90 watt or more, my laptop use a 95 watt charger but would love to just use the monitor

I think thats about it, but i really cant find any that do all that.
Closest thing is LG ultragear 48q900, but it don’t charge with usb-c and also don’t do pip, so meh, there is always something missing…

I cannot recommend a specific model. There are enough good people here, that will help you with that.
However I will give you my 2 cents about this part:

Don’t.
OK, maybe replace your monitors, maybe go down to 2 monitors.
I had 2 monitors for a long time now, and when my old second monitor died I literally felt crippled. Adjusting from 1 to 2 monitors is easy. Going back to 1 can be absolutely awful experience.
I do not know your use case, so maybe you really don’t need 3, but I would advise not to go down to just 1…

i often end up using just my main display and my laptop, so basically i have a 2 monitor setup. the other 2 was used before i got the laptop, so yes i dont really need 3, 2 is ideal, i just wish i had 1 that was bigger than the one i have, without compromising the other points - and that can charge my laptop

ehh looks like i might just have found one that can do all the above, but its not really super avaliable - so something similar to this

or this (but i can not find the 2k version anywere and the 4k version is insanely expensive)

And then there is this one, which kinda fits, but is similarly sized to the one i already have, so all i would gain is the features of picture by picture and charging, which might be ok, unless i can find something that actually does it all

This is my 1st time, hearing about power pass-thru, for laptops
… I imagine, this is a USB-C/display connection, right?

yup, usb-c power delivery

i have looked at this kinda all day now and it looks like it is just in general easier to use a desktop dock, can always put that behind the monitor so i don’t see it

Samsung Odyssey Ark.

Larger than 32" and single monitor. Might be what you are looking for. Linus has a video.

I have an MSI MPG321UR-QD (the 32 inch 4K HDR one) which I use to charge my macbook pro, and it also has a KVM built into it which is useful. Obviously its not bigger than the 32 inch you were after, but the stand allows for a huge range of movement.

You mentioned that you edit/do content stuff, so i would suggest staying away from a curved screen as on the diagonals it can make straight lines look not straight, depending on how agressive the radius is.

yup. i actually looked at it. 1 mayor downside is that it for some odd reason don’t allow multiple inputs as picture by picture - but you can have your monitor and 2 apps running, like the build in browser and netflix app. not exactly what i want but maybe a version 2 or a firmware will change that. also its curve, im not a fan of that, but makes sense considering its size

i agree, i preferably look for a big flat surface. my current lg is a big flat one. i have a curved screen on a secondary machine and i never liked it

I have a pair of Predator monitors. 32" and 27". Would recommend the 32" but you said you wanted larger. When in VR, my desktop is equivalent to a 2.1 meter screen roughly.

Here’s a thought. If you want big, there are lots of 4K short-throw projectors. Depends on your budget.

I am very pleased with my Samsung G9, 49” curved monitor.

love that idea! but a bit too complicated. also considering i do a lot of artistic work and graphic stuff, color is important

to update this. im still looking. but as technology dont seem to evolve as fast as i had hoped. i been eyeballing the Corsair Xeneon 32" 240hz. same size as my current lg, but much much better colors. also consider a 2nd monitor, the benq pd3420q - or instead of those two, maybe just 1 much bigger screen: corsair xeneon flex.

the flex however is kinda taking a chance on the bleeding edge, where the other 2 are already proven to be pretty awesome, and would look nice stacked on top of eachother

This is a interesting topic, one which I dabbled with some months ago . I’ve always wanted to sometime get a fully color accurate monitor been on my wishlist for ages …ever so often I have a usecase where I want to be able to display subtle differences in metallic paints or as a budding woodworker I want to photograph and be able to view differences in wood finish and or slight variances in wood grain or ‘color’. For this you need a absolute color accurate monitor .

I needed up going Asus proart pa27ac. 27’ 1440p

It is only a 75hz monitor but then for its intended use not an issue ,forgive me I’m digressing heavily but I’ll get to the point eventually …

My future path is to get a 32" 4k gaming type monitor with high refresh etc so I’ll run that in tandem with the proart .

What I found was ,4k 32" (32" is Min recommended size for 4k) with full colour accuracy and factory calibrated DOES exist …but is insanely expensive(price of small cheap second hand car) and it’s still not high refresh rate . For some reason there doesn’t seem to exist a 4k 32" monitor that has professional attributes (color) AND is high refresh rate .

The “closest” monitor ivd seen but still a eye watering 1800usd approx is viewsonic xg321
So being hdr1200 and 10bit it’ll Inherently be fairly color accurate and what not …but I guess still not a “professional” monitor .
It does have high refresh rate though . There’s that … imho this monitor and my proart is for me the ultimate best of both I guess …

The viewsonic also uses the mini led tech which I’m guessing is the closest next best thing to OLED

yup. totally understood what you ment. the statement i made above that technology did not evolve as fast as i had hoped, is oled and micro led i had in mind. i been looking at both and am not 100% convinced its the right time for either, still early days. the 4k resolution i am personaly not super in to. i also play games and a 1440p monitor would be better for my need - thats why both the corsair and benq are 1440p.

something real interesting need to show up over the coming month or so. else i think ill get those 2 in january, if all goes well

Yeah… seems super o led techs are normally found in TVs 50inch or up or whatever … The tech is there …but it seems they have forgotten about computer folks that want Same.tech but in 24-32inch form factor
