I was originally going to buy the fx-8350 but then the "new" 8-cores came out, well factory overclocked 8-cores but never the less. Now I'm torn, the fx-9590 is way out of the question because of the price tag, but now it's down to the wire with the 8350 and the 9370, 9370 has the hardware advantage but is almost $150 more, is it worth it? Or should I wait to see what the next Intel CPU's are like?
Not worth it. I'd recommend getting the FX 8350, a nice motherboard, and a decent CPU cooler. Then give the FX 8350 a modest overclock. It'll perform similarly to the FX 9590 while consuming less power. I don't know what AMD was thinking with this release.
And the FX 9370 doesn't have a "hardware advantage." It's pretty much the same thing as a FX 8350 while being clocked 400MHz higher. You can easily push the FX 8350 past this.
8350 -200ish
9370 -370ish
4770k -340ish
basically you could get better for less, and an 8350 performs admerably for its price
I would advise against any of amd's 9000 series fx processors. For the amount you are going to pay, you will be dissapointed. I think you would enjoy the 8350 just fine.
Just be aware that now amd are binning the good cpus and branding them as the higher priced ones the odds of you getting a new 8350 that can overclock decently have gone way down, at least that is how i see it.
Dont worry too much about it though, as long as you can get a solid 4.5 on all cores (no turbo) you will be happy.
the 9xxx series is nothing more than a binned 8xxx series. Meaning a 8350 @ 5Ghz will perform EXACTLY like the 9590 at 5Ghz because they're both piledriver 8core cpus.
As for next gen intel? NO NO NO, Haswell just literally came out. you won't see next gen from intel for a year of so.
