I really enjoy my software developer/Linux Admin job. However, way back in 2002-3 I had a really bad patch where a contract I'd worked on finished unexpectedly, when then company went bust. With no other contracts about and no payment for the work I'd done, I was in a bit of a fix. Fortunately, there was a opening for a dispatch rider in a nearby town, so I did that for 9 months.
It was really weird as a job. You rode a motorcycle all day, for £1 ($1.50 approx) a mile (one way) for each item carried and you could have as many as 7 items. On a 200 mile run that's serious money for a days work. On the downside it could be 1 item for 50 miles all day. Either way it was very relaxing and it paid my mortgage.
The strangest pick-up was a load of sandwiches from a farm shop to be taken to a office meeting 40 miles away. They weren't packed in a box, just trays covered in foil. As you can imagine, it wasn't a good outcome for the expectant hungry office workers. lol
