I keep hearing that intel are better than AMD's which is obv :P but that's affected my opinion on AMD CPU's....Slowly....turn ....turning into a Intel Fanboy.
All joking aside Eg. the Core i3 3220 is better then an FX 4100 but the 4100 is cheaper.
its a quad core vs Dual Core (with Hyper-threading)
Is the core i3 able to handle upcoming games in the future or will the 4100 be more future-proof? because it is a quad core.
I am looking to build a PC but really don't know what to go for AMD or Intel but i cant get an i5 because i can't afford it but i heard the i3 is better then most amd in the same price range, when i look at benchmarks with an i3 vs fx4100, i3 smoke's the 4100 marginallly but i seem not happy getting the i3.
Do people buy a 7870 because it is a single core GPU? Does anybody call it a single core GPU because all 1280 execution units share a single collective L2 cache and instruction pipeline? Maybe more relevant, does that shared cache and pipeline at all affect the parallelization ability of the GPU?
Contrary to what people seem to think, there is no significant difference between a CPU and GPU. GPUs get better faster because the manufacturer has direct control over the workings of the software that runs on it, not because it's a different thing. If a GCN stream processor or CUDA unit is a core, and a single physical core in my 2600k is a core, then one half of an execution unit in an AMD Piledriver CPU is definitely a core.
Technically speaking, you would be better served getting a Phenom II x4 than the 4100 OR the i3-3220.

It does not show gaming, but in overall chip-use it beats the i3 and in most categories that it 'loses' they are so close its not even funny. The ONE area that the Intel outright destroys the AMD is in the Cinebench single Thread Benchmark, however, the AMD beats the intel by nearly the same margin in the 7-zip. Overall they are fairly balanced chips, and the Phenom 2 is (according to some people in europe) more than 15% cheaper than the intel chips are. I know in USD the Phenom 2 is 84$.
Also, The Phenom II X4 has a lot of overclocking head room.
