What is this?

Hey,

I keep hearing that intel are better than AMD's which is obv :P but that's affected my opinion on AMD CPU's....Slowly....turn ....turning into a Intel Fanboy.

All joking aside Eg. the Core i3 3220 is better then an FX 4100 but the 4100 is cheaper.

its a quad core vs Dual Core (with Hyper-threading)

Is the core i3 able to handle upcoming games in the future or will the 4100 be more future-proof? because it is a quad core.

PS. I'm losing my sanity with this!

No. Neither of them are future proof but I'd say the 4300 over the 3220

nether of those chips are quad core if your building a pc what are you going to use it for and whats your budget?

I am looking to build a PC but really don't know what to go for AMD or Intel but i cant get an i5 because i can't afford it but i heard the i3 is better then most amd in the same price range, when i look at benchmarks with an i3 vs fx4100, i3 smoke's the 4100 marginallly but i seem not happy getting the i3.

budget is £500-550.

What are you wanting to use the PC for????

AMD http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/NvSH

INTEL http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/NvZg

The AMD has a lot more firepower there

Gaming :) Copperman thank you for the 3rd option you have sold be on that :P will the amd bottleneck the 7950?

No that cpu still beats the fx 4xxx and fx 6100 and its a true 4 core cpu unlike the AMD FX cpus

You can get a nice overclock on it too if you whanted

what should i overclock to? 3.8ghz?

That chip will go up to 4Ghz but i had one and never over clocked it ...it was fine as it was .

lol i gave that gameing rig to my dad to play hes cod games on when he blu up his pc.

I am curently useing a FX 6100 and i will be removeing it and droping that chip in here soon

Lol My dad getting the one i have just now!

deffanetly go for an AMD build, the FX4300 with 4 real cores out performs an i3 dualcore with HT since games come upto to 4 cores like crysis

The i3 cost almost the same as a FX6300, the FX6300 performs close to an i5 3570k so deffanetly go for the FX6300.

I always felt that AMD and Intel had equally good CPUs.  I'd still recommend AMD CPUs because they are cheaper.

the FX4300 with 4 real cores

lol.. Funny.. Really funny.

If my choice was either an i3 3220 or an FX 4300, i'd go with the Intel all day...

And an i3 3220 costs about the exact same as the FX 4300. ($119 vs $120)

But of course if you're wanting to spend $10 more, you can get an FX 6300 which is stupid fast for the price.

You should wait till you got the extra £10 for the FX 6300

Whats so funny about it? ☺ FX4300 has 2 modules with each 2 cores.that makes it 4 cores.

but as i said the best wayto go is the FX6300

Yes 2 cores per module, but it lacks dedicated resource per core.

Would you buy a car that's missing a wheel? Probably not.

Do people buy a 7870 because it is a single core GPU? Does anybody call it a single core GPU because all 1280 execution units share a single collective L2 cache and instruction pipeline? Maybe more relevant, does that shared cache and pipeline at all affect the parallelization ability of the GPU?

Contrary to what people seem to think, there is no significant difference between a CPU and GPU. GPUs get better faster because the manufacturer has direct control over the workings of the software that runs on it, not because it's a different thing. If a GCN stream processor or CUDA unit is a core, and a single physical core in my 2600k is a core, then one half of an execution unit in an AMD Piledriver CPU is definitely a core.

Technically speaking, you would be better served getting a Phenom II x4 than the 4100 OR the i3-3220.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/102?vs=677

It does not show gaming, but in overall chip-use it beats the i3 and in most categories that it 'loses' they are so close its not even funny. The ONE area that the Intel outright destroys the AMD is in the Cinebench single Thread Benchmark, however, the AMD beats the intel by nearly the same margin in the 7-zip. Overall they are fairly balanced chips, and the Phenom 2 is (according to some people in europe) more than 15% cheaper than the intel chips are. I know in USD the Phenom 2 is 84$.

Also, The Phenom II X4 has a lot of overclocking head room.
