What is this on Nexus 5?

In the attached pic, boxed in red...What is the gray antenna looking thing? I don't know what search terms on google. I've looked up a few teardowns but no one ever comments on it.

Do they have NFC? If so that could be it.

It does have NFC, but after searched google it seems like the NFC stuff is in a different location. That module being taken out in the picture is the speaker module....which I learned while searching about NFC. Not sure why the speaker needs something like that antenna-ish thingy.

3D Speaker. Increase the surface area so you get louder sounds.

Most likely a antenna.
NFC is usually on the back of the case because you can get better range out of it.

Almost certainly NFC IMHO, if you want to find out look at a tear dopwn for another phone with NFC and see if they comment on it

Not sure what it is, but it is part of the speaker.

The Nexus 4 has something similar.

iFixit is one of my favorite places on the internet!

I found a video on youtube where the guys says it's a "multiband 4G antenna" and the on on the other side is 3G.

Bingo.

I would've guessed they were for wifi, 2.4 & 5 GHz. Seems kinda big to be mobile antennas (in the picture)

I haven't tried to locate the wifi and bluetooth stuff yet but those definitely don't have as big an antenna. The only other antenna/coil type thing that is bigger is the induction coil for the NFC but it isn't in this picture.

I'm kind of intrigued and want to know what material/process is used to make those "traces".

That explains it and it makes sense!

Thanks for sharing.
