Hi Tek comunity. I have a simple question, how you guys can install the latest Nvidia drivers on Linux? Im running Ubuntu Gnome 14.10. Have a MSI 650 ti boost. Hopefully someone can help this noob in his journey to use Linux everyday and forget about dual-booting Window$!
I would actually recommend using 14.04 LTS, seeing that 14.10 is a development release.
Other than that, here is how you do about doing it using a terminal session:
- sudo apt-add-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
- sudo apt-get update
- sudo apt-get install nvidia-346
That will install the latest set of nvidia drivers for Ubuntu.
and what about future updates?
Find out what the latest driver release is from Nvidia. Once you know the first three digits of the driver version, just simply type in sudo apt-get install nvidia-xxx (xxx would be the first three digits of the driver version).
If you want to remove the previous drivers before hand, type in sudo apt-get purge nvidia-(version).
