i would like to know why a western digital black drive is so much more expensive than any other hard drive.
I think blacks are marginally faster and have better reliability. At the very least, they have better warranty.
Blues are a good balance of everything, at an agreeable price. Tend to be quiter than blacks. Definitely prefer to buy blues and simply replace them if they fail.

Seagate Barracudas are ok. Not my preferred drive. Unfortunately, there are no WD blue drives larger than 1TB. So the Barracuda remains as a potential option. Certainly cheaper than buying two or more WD blues.
Yeah anybody know what caused the black drives to jump up $35 almost? They were only $90 until maybe 2 3 months ago. Couldn't have been a sale, they were $90 for majority of last year.
I think it was because WD released a new Black drive. I just remember the older ones on newegg.ca being $90 while the new ones were, like you said, $35 dollars more.
