I was looking at a 285 a few months back but now tonnes of new cards have hit this month.
Was looking at this http://tinyurl.com/osoy4dw but I'm guessing I could do a lot better ? I want to stay under £150 preferably but if there is something that is perfect for £200 I could take it from my ssd fund I guess.
R9-380. it's the same card as the 285 but higher clocks. also there is a 4 gigabyte VRAM option now. for like a few bucks more. $230 dollars here in America. i don't know how much that is in pounds but i recommend that.
I'd recommend the new R9 380 4gb or evga 960 4gb. And yes the 960 4gb can use most of its 4gb vram. Others will disagree but since I own this card and have seen it use up to 3.4gb vram in GTA V the others are wrong. Cant go wrong with either of these choices, good luck.
It isn't that it can't access it or take advantage of it. Just that it really doesn't have much effect. It can't get to all that info simultaneously because of the narrow bus and the fact that the GPU isn't strong enough to process it.
Side by side a 2GB and a 4GB 960 will perform about the same. The 4Gb card may be faster in some cases but not by much. Not enough to warrant the extra cost.
Either way a 285/380 will still be faster and cheaper.
