What is the chipset on this laptop and will it support this chip?

I have a Lenovo G570-4334 EUU from newegg. Lenovo G570
It currently has an Intel Core i3-2370m Sandybridge chip in it. I want to upgrade to an Ivybridge Core i3 3120m chip with the same TDP of 35W. The 2370m has a PPGA988 chipset and the ivybridge chip has a FCPGA988. From all appearances it should work and AFAIK it all relies on the chipset aka HM65. Does my laptop use an HM65 chipset? Should my laptop support this? I can find this upgraded chip for ~$85 USD. I also plan to upgrade the screen from glossy to matte and add in the OEM Bluetooth adapter that is missing from my model. I am basically going to refurb my own laptop to extend its life until I can afford a nice, new, powerful laptop. I plan to upgrade the RAM too.

I did find in Linux that the chipset is listed as HM65. The question is if the BIOS supports it.
Anyone know how to extract that kind of info from a BIOS? The BIOS files?

Here is the DMIDecode data on the BIOS:

Yes the Lenovo G570 uses the HM65 chipset, and both the i3-2370M and i3-3120M should be supported by that. In the "supported products" section of the HM65 chipset neither the i3-2370M or i3-3120M are listed. However; most of the i3/i5/i7 2xxx and 3xxx series are listed.

I personally would take the chance.

I posted a thread on the BIOS modding forums to get someone to remove the whitelisting and unlock the advanced menu. This way, the BIOS should support ANY HM65 chip as well as all the Intel AC wireless/BT chips and the max 16/32GB RAM spec the board lists.

No you can't do this.

That laptop is built on Sandybridge mobile, Ivybridge mobile uses the same fcPGA 988 socket, but it has an HM77 series chipset.

You can not use an ivybridge CPU in that laptop.
EDIT: It's the otherway around, Sandybridge isn't compatable with the HM77 chipset.

ivy bridge is backward compatible with intel 6x series.
still i see it as waste of money... performance upgrade is negligible [0.2-2%?]... but i'm sure you want to upgrade something :)

socket compatible cpu's.

edit~

Sorry, i just read this:

"However, due to changes in electrical interface of Ivy Bridge chips, they could
not be used in older motherboards, built on 6-series chipsets. "
so it might not work - but then again it might work.

So here's supported for your chipset. [not socket - socket is pretty much same on both intel 6&7]

well, Im not interested in the clock speed boost. Im interested in the iGPU boost. I have right now the HD 3000. The Ivybridge one is HD 4000.
