Let's make this plain and simple so anyone searching google can understand this. Can someone who knows quite a bit about AMD explain what AMD's black edition is, what does it do? is it faster? better for x,y,z? Also do the processors have a regular model and a black edition or is it something different?

The black editions used to be the cream of the crop. They were typically higher clocked and were also unlocked for overclockers.
While in the past the "black editions" where just that, cherry chips sold for overclockers; now they are simply AMDs higher end offerings of any particular line. For example all 8350, 9370, 9590 are all black edition chips. In addition to this meaningless and degrading usage of the "black edition" label it also means that the chips have unlocked multipliers for overclocking; essentially "Black Edition" chips are AMDs version of Intel's K series.
before the release of the 9xxx i would have thought the 8350 were cherry picked too maybe they even were before. but now they are binned lower than the 9xxx series.
That is entirely possible, and I would believe it. AMD has't made a new chip-set that is meaningful to the overclocking or PC enthusiast community in so long. Given that the Vishera architecture has been out so long, AMD has improved their manufacturing process to the point where more chips clock high and more have more functioning cores. Therefore in the beginning 8350s may have really been the best top few percent of chips made.
AMD black editions are basically the unlocked versions of AMD regular chips. Similar to how Intel has the i5 4670 and the i5 4670K, or the i7 4790 and the i7 4790K, the K series are the unlocked chips, the non-K chips are the locked chips..
The irony of the AMD black editions is that AMD promotes the black editions SO MUCH that people forget the non-black editions exist. In fact they are so promoted that E-tailers don't bother picking up the non-black edition chips to sell to customers. in fact AMD hasn't even bothered to make s a "Non-Black Edition" Processor in years.
I thought the 8350 was unlock cuz its advertised as 3.5-5 ghz could that be by just adding voltage or is the multiplier just capped?

Black editions just means unlocked.
Just like the K series at intel parts.
Nothing more, Nothing less.
