When my computer is idle it rarely if ever happens but when I'm gaming or have many programs running at once I hear a chirping noise from time to time in varying length and annoyance. Any idea as to what piece of hardware could be making that noise? My guess is it's the PSU but I don't want to buy a replacement, uninstall the old one, install the new one, and hear that chirping noise after all that trouble when maybe one of you fine folk might know otherwise. So, does anyone here have any experience with chirping-type noises coming from their PCs? If so, what piece of hardware do you think it's most likely to be? I could vocaroo the noise if that'd be helpful...
I'm voting it's a harddrive error. Make sure that it is laying the correct side up and parralell to the ground. I had weird issues like that with an old antec case of mine with weird mounting brackets and I lost my screws and used random ones. Anyways, the were oddly laid in the case and putting them flat and with the pcb side down fixed it for me.
remember that a hard drive is a mechanical device in which all the head and disk are not touching by an extremely small space. Any for of movement inside can cuse noises that are completely unwanted.
Weirdest thing... I looked up PSU chirping on youtube and the first thing that came up was someone else with the same PSU having it make the same exact noise. This is what is sounds like --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYugYoXmMcA
That being said, is this dangerous? Does it mean I should expect my PSU to fail soon-ish?
I had that problem on start up with my main hdd. My solution was to pick up the front of my case and drop it about six inches lol. Chirping went away. Back up your information before doing something like that. Hard drive has been in use since 2009 and still works fine.
