Hey all. Iv been looking at the trailer of no man's sky and been wondering what's it all about? Basically I know it's a minecraft clone. Im hearing lots of BIG things about it, which kinda makes me think of it as some super old computer trying to find a password. I saw the animals in the thing but what's is it? First person or third person? I saw the spaceship combat. It seems really boring cause the planets are just generated with its creatures. Same time it seems really fun. I think it's basically depending on the amount of content a planet packs, and is not some random generated land with the same type of trees and same designs. Any suggestions?
This game looked very cool originally when gameplay first debuted, but I've lost track of it after the dev studio's office flooded. http://gamerant.com/hello-games-no-man-sky-office-flood/
sorry for the spam, but the name of this game always reminds my of this great game http://www.gog.com/game/beneath_a_steel_sky
But to get back to the discussion at hand, I believe No Man's Sky is a first person space/galaxy/planet exploration game with a procedurally generated galaxy. I THINK you can fly your ship around in space and then explore, landing on new planets and then embarking on adventures on the surface.
It's First person with procedurally generated solar systems and life forms. IIRC from looking at it awhile back the animals and stuff are supposed to be generated by the program and not designed by people but every time they anounce something they are a little bit vague.
I'm more interested in it that Star Citizen and Dlite Dangerous but after a few years there is still to little info on it for me to get my hopes up.
Yeah I know its a space and galaxy themed stuff. But exactly what do you do on the surface? Like kill and skin animals? Use a gun? Do you kill? Something? I mean I haven't seen a weapon
I try not to get caught up in the mystery of it all too much . . .
Nobody knows. The game might not even be real!!!
Yeah, it has occured to me a few times that it could just be a video for a cash grab but then again I am paranoid.
Spore proved the technology years ago. Will Wright took notice of the dark arcane that took place in the European demoscene and hired a bunch of specialists in procedurally generated graphics. Spore was the result. And while that game ended up more a proof of concept than a good game in its own right, here 7 years later the speed of computers and the technology has matured to a point where 'no man's sky' certainly is feasible.
However when you do things that way there is a very narrow margin of error. An overlooked semicolon somewhere in your code can alter the whole universe. So I believe they are testing the thing over and over, weeding out worlds that looks genuinely corrupted. Given the scale of the project, that is going to take some time.
I hope it come out for PC but with Sony as financial backer I wont put money down on it happening. Also there is a real danger that it will be little but a glorified walking simulator. A small team can absolutely make the engine and the universe, making an actual game with interesting content that is fun to play is another thing all together. With procedural generation, that is not just a pseudo random number generator with hooks attached, it is easy to get lured by the tech itself.
And more importantly, this game, is being developed by 4 people!. Seriously. How the he'll do expect a game full of content based on 4 people? I mean it's just hilarious. And even if they did create a random number generator that had lots of conditions for generating a planet, but if the actual number of planets is 4 quintals, i think the only planets worth living on are the few that the devs have actually seen and tried editing? Cause not every planet is perfect. It may have horrible level design?
And what about the creatures? Of course they would have to implement a design like snakes, birds, four legged creatures, and all, cause the creatures we see today- dogs, cats, snakes, lizards, birds, fish and all, are work of thousands of years of evolution, and I don't think the phrase,"thousands of years of evolution " and "octacore jaguar chip at 1.6ghz" match up. No way a cpu will ever be able to do who knows what to do.
And if they do implement that, the creatures would be the same just with skin changes and to the max a few extra fancy body parts.
Here you go!
Resurrection.
But I am looking forward to this game. I need to get a new graphics card. My GTX480 is on the minimum requirements lol
