The problem with using government, to protect oneself from government is a self defeating proposition. I understand you are not a big fan of Trump - do you think he’d honor any rights afforded to his enemies that he considers as criminals?

If you want to protect yourself from a bully, you can’t rely on said bully.

and this right here shows why “small” government is a bad thing. government should NOT be small. power should NOT be concentrated in one person or a small group of people. what we see as indecisiveness is a feature because it prevents any one person from seizing autocratic rule.

The felon should not have the latitude to honor or not honor these rights.

When people say small government, they mean small in power and reach primarily. Sure staff will be smaller, but that’s secondary. The primary point of small government is that it’s too small to be able to hurt you. I would not call communist governments or dictatorships “Small governments”

Do you understand my previous point though? You can’t trust the monster you are seeking protection from, to protect you.

No, I don’t understand… What is the alternative? I am no longer a sophomore in college and "libertarian"s no longer make sense to me any more than spherical cows.

The real world we live in is messy. I would love to have some of the red tape to go away but I am not holding my breath.

Yes, there will always be edge cases but for most of the people, the government guaranteeing our rights is our best bet.

I agree, the world is messed up and there is no solution man can ultimately come up with that will create a utopia. Because every man, even the best of man, has flaws and sin. The only hope is that man turns to God since he ways are perfect. Obviously and unfortunately, most people won’t do that. So I recognize my solution has flaws, because any solution that involves people, will have flaws.

So I would also agree, I think the government should be held accountable to treat people equally and fairly, I am a big fan of the bill of rights.

So that withstanding, I would say citizens being armed and educated would be the better alternative. I trust my neighbors a lot more than my federal government, and I even voted for Trump! Yet I know he doesn’t have my best interest in mind like my friends, family, and neighbors do.

If we hand sole power to the government so that it has the power to determine who does, and does not have rights (For if it is the guaranteer of them, it can also take them away), it can just as easily take said rights away, on it’s own whim. It’s harder to do that to a population that can defend itself.

Well here is the fun fact. As someone that lives in a democracy/republic the government, at a fundamental level, has to answer to you and your fellow constituents. In essence the people are the government. Owning a firearm is not going to protect you against a malicious power that has something like this:

Authoritarians will divide and conquer. They start small then gradually go after bigger and bigger groups until its too late. Voting and being politically active is the best defense. Call/email/write your congressman(State and federal), governors office, county commissioner, etc. Because the moment you have to use a firearm you’ve very likely already lost.
