What Is "ethical Hacking"

Hey Guys

At my college programming club a few people were discussing Ethical Hacking. I am somewhat confused about what this means. What does an Ethical hack need that a Malicious hack?

An ethical hack can be finding a security exploit and reporting it to those that can fix it, instead of abusing it. Just as one example of many that are out there.

It has been popping up often as of late in the forum, and even more often in my responses, but head here, if you are willing to do some reading I think this will not only answer your question but will give you some extra insight on why ethical hacking is important.

Is there a way that i can practise hacking without doing things that are illeagal?

As long as you're hacking your own stuff or you have permission from the owner to do it then you can do what you like. Just be careful if you're doing it over the internet as you can inadvertently violate a law in a different country.

So would it be best if i gave a friend an older computer (say a netbook) have him set it up and than i tried to find an exploit that can give me access to the device over my home LAN?

Maybe more like you get a bunch cheap machines and hack them at home. If your friends give you premission to crack into their systems go for it, but not through the internet - stay in the lan.

ok ill organize something with my buddies than. Thanks for the help guys

any hacking can be deemed ethical, ethics are just an opinion what you think is ethical I might not

There are plenty of this on the web. Just google CTF and you might even find some VMs with tutorials on how to get into them, exploit certain bugs and even learn how to fix them.

have fun & learn stuff that might prevent another Heartbleed from being undiscovered for too long.

Hacking ethically
What it sounds like.
Hacking for good, basically doing pentesting for businesses.

You can also use virtual machines

String EthicalHacking = "Not being a dick";

if (Hacking == true)
{
dns.cachePoision();
}
else
{
coffee.drink();
}
