What is a shader cache? And why does it take so long to compile?

Call of Duty: Warzone is horrible about this. You can’t even load into the matchmaking if the Shader building isn’t complete and it takes a long time every game update. On my Ryzen 3600 and RX480(at the time) it took a good 5 mins every game update to rebuild the shaders.

I’m confused since when does Apex run on WINE/Proton? EAC is still not supported on it to my knowledge.

But regardless, it could be that the cache became corrupted for whatever reason, the only way to really fix that is deleting the cache as far as I know. But obviously then it has to rebuild.

Oddly I do not have to rebuild the cache when I delete the Cyberpunk cache, which is practically every time I play it…

The cache rebuilds on its own just by starting the game so I’m not sure what you’re referring to, you don’t do that yourself. And if you’re talking about the compilation then yeah obviously… what would it compile if you deleted the cache?

See my prior post above w/ video. Have do to that nearly every time I run the game.

I saw that, but I am still not sure you are referring to with

Because, you don’t do that yourself.

As I said the cache builds up on its own (which is why you have to delete it for reasons unknown). And the compilation on launch can’t happen because there’s no cache.
