I’ve been meaning to get into this.
Is it worth the purchase? What’s the overall feel like? I don’t want it too be overy complicated and tedious, but at the same time I don’t really like it to be a walk in the park.
That looks very interesting!
Disclaimer: I purchased this game myself and have no affiliation with Hinterland Studio. This is my opinion based on 96.6 hours of game play.
The good points:
- You define the level of difficulty. You can set individual levels in almost all areas (see screenshot).
- There are different terrains and areas that force changes in your behavior.
- You have a decent story line (Winternmute) or survival mode.
- There are some random elements to keep you on your toes.
- It is immersive.
The bad:
- Wolves. I hate these frikking things and the ability to counter attacks is limited by design. Bears less so, but they can maul you badly.
Overall 9 / 10 and recommended. $34.99 on Steam as I write this.
I’m addicted to Vampire Survivors. A highly addictive game, very retro at heart. A very tasty little Sega Genesis side.
I just spent like 4 hours playing it on Sunday during our mini heat way in the PNW. I have about half of everything unlocked now.
Oxygen Not Included
Game with cute graphics that requires an engineering degree to play without looking up any YouTube tutorials. To get the full game experience do several playthroughs, all of which will likely fail before searching for YouTube tutorials.
Over 1200 hours in it, the next game in my steam collection has less than 400.
^^Have countless hours on this game. A bullet hell rogue-like game that has references galore. Great for when you have 10-20 minutes to spare.
Just bought this to play with some buddies recently and not bad so far:
So many good ones, wow!
More or less a classic in 2022, but certainly both related to present conflicts and being a great and sad RPG/survival/basebuilder. It’s well made and you see developer love in this title. (same developer as Frostpunk)
Posting because on sale ( a steal really). I recommend getting both DLCs for interesting new content and more stories.
The one I’m thinking about is very different, and is my favorite game of all time is:
Tunic: Tunic is an action-adventure game. Its most prominent and innovative feature is the in-game instruction manual. A cute little fox dressed in green and wearing a weapon takes his first steps in a new world full of secrets, surprises, and dangers.
I’ve seen promos for Tunic, and that game looks absolutely gorgeous.
I’m still playing Banished.
My current town is over 250 population. I can’t keep up with the expansion. At least I manage to feed them all.
I guess that’s my addiction for the time being…
Come again?
Banished supply lines and villager walking paths get really difficult once you have these amount of villagers. This is vastly more complicated and difficult than e.g. Anno.
But 250 is a worthy achievement regardless. I’m playing a game every other year or so since release. Simplicity and fun always gets me back for a day or two. Great game.
Let’s not forget the amazing soundtrack. Still waiting for the Silksong to drop, for years now…
And KSP2, but that is no longer indie I guess…
Don’t know if this counts as Indie:
The story line, and how you progress through is just a masterpiece.
Agree that Detroit: Become Human is an excellent game, but it doesn’t count as indie for me. It had a development budget of 30 million euros as per Wikipedia.
Yeah, wasn’t sure. 30M is definitely not indie
Indie just means that they didn’t have a publisher involved. Has nothing to do with the budget, but more that they’re an independent studio.
But, the game was published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, so that still doesn’t make it an indie game.
Still very good.
What budget would indie be for you?
