Asus HD7970 Direct CU II
best you could get would probably be a 7870
pbtech has got both the 7870 ($316) and gtx660 ($304) on clearance at the moment both are great cards,
http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=c&p=video_cards
the 7970 is a great card but you are looking north of $500nz for one of those at the moment.
Also check out http://www.graphicscard.co.nz, they look to have great prices, haven't used them myself yet.
thanks guys
just a question is this a good card for the price http://www.dragonpc.co.nz/p.aspx?247046
nz...
AMD R9-280X
No
it's not a good cooler meaning it will run hotter and be able to OverClock less because it has less headroom.
BUT. that is a 7950 nevertheless so it will by default run faster than all the other linked 7870s
1+
so would it be better to get a 7870 and oc heaps and save some money because the 7950 cant really over clock
the 7950 is probably the best OC'ing card there is.
The average OC on the 7950 is about 1100Mhz from a 800/900Mhz base clock.
as long as you buy a card with good cooler the 7950 is EPIC.
If you're willing to get your hands dirty, I'd suggest getting a 7950 and then putting an Arctic Accelero Xtreme 7970 on it. Coolest, quietest, fastest combination you can get.

What resolution are you going to be gaming at?
Any plans for running multiple monitors?
Will try and help you save some money if I can, as we get pretty ripped off for hardware prices in nz =/
Also if you are wanting to do some overclocking on your new gpu, try and grab one with an aftermarket cooling unit instead of the reference design, worth the extra $10-$20 you'll often pay as you can push it alot further to get more frames than a standard one.
I think getting an ASUS 7850 2GB Direct CU II is a good option its just under 200$. I would never pay more than 200$ for a card because they come out with new ones all the time and the ones 200 and under are adequate to play any and upcoming games. Or you could wait for the high end R7 series or low to mid range R9 series. I think those have pretty good price points. And with this card you can check out Logans review on it :)
yeah it sucks too pay so much for hardware,
im going to get a new monitor and only one. at least a 1920x1080 i think
yeah ill try to find some good deals on 7950 but there over $400 for a aftermaket cooler
yeah i would get that for the price but in nz its so expensive for hardware.
its around $300 in NZ
im in nz so i dont think u can get a artic accelero cooler its sucks because i cant use amazon in nz or neweeg.
but its a good idea i was thinking about that be4
they are about $100 in new zealand
http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=1105772 this looks good for the money or should i go for a http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=1379702 and this thing looks beast its huge does it have the best cooling http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=1318540
also is a 970 chipset good for overclocking a 8350 and how much can it overclock
HD 7970 or 280X.
