What GPU for my case?

Hello, any gpu suggestion for my case? http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/product.php?product_id=2987 I thought about 7970 but I saw that its ~5cm to long.

I certainly hope you dont intend to use the optional psu (400 or 500w) unit that came with that case with a high end gpu. Recipe for complete disaster...

You have 230mm to play with. That rules out most high end stuff so look at the smaller gtx760's for example. Something like the new asus gtx760 will fit easy enough. <<<link>>>

I have http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2795#kf

A 760 would probably be the limit then. Since your psu has 2x 12v rails make sure that the card's 2x 6pin inputs get power from 2 seperate cables(1x 12v rail each). I would also suggest a 7870 but just that they are all around the length of what your max is so I think it would be better to get a card with a little room to spare.

get a new case, for $40!

What if I cut a little bit of my case to fit 7970 in? Is that PSU enough to run 7970?

I most certainly wouldnt do it. See the thing is Gigabyte were very sneaky with these old psu's. 550w is the max peak output. Take that as the catch on fire output rating, the actual continuous output is 450w. At the end of the day it is a really shitty psu and matching it to a 7970 would be like running a ferrari 458 on diesel. There is going to be fireworks.

If you want a 7970 then its new psu, new case (or take a dremel to your existing). I wouldnt even drop down to a 7950 as you'll be in the same boat with the power issue.

A psu like this <<link>>, dirt cheap ($80 us) after rebate. More then enough power for whatever you throw at it. 5 yr warranty. Seasonic unit rebranded as xfx. Top unit.
