What GPU for a4-5300?

My friend recently bought a prebuilt with an a4-5300, 8gb of ram, and a 400 watt psu without consulting me. He wants to be able to run GTA 5 at medium settings at 1080p and asked me what gpu he should get within his $250 budget. I am thinking th gtx 750ti 2gb as his cpu will bottleneck anything higher. What are your guys thoughts?

Also, I think he may have to upgrade his cpu to a Athlon X4 860k to be able to run the game. Or is his current dual core apu fine?

It will run it but expect really buggy and stuttering gameplay and it won't be enough for online play. The 750 ti will get around 35ish FPS on Very High settings but he will deffinately need a better cpu.

You might want to make sure his pc has good cooling also since it's a pre-b and also if it's a cheap PSU it might also need replaced if it is a small case because too much heat + cheap PSU = unstable power delivery.

Edit #2. By run it I mean it will load then stutter and you will teleport and lose animations, cars will magically apear out of nowhere...

If you can, have him return the rig.

8gb of RAM is decent, as long as it is at least 1600mhz, but the motherboard is probably shite, and the PSU is probably just adequate.

If the CPU will bottleneck his system. Why not tell him to get a bigger better card, so when he gets frustrated with his purchase, he already has a decent GPU?

Unless you are stuck on getting that card the R9 270 is the same price and tends too get 10-20 fps more in games. There is also a few games where it gets close to 40 fps more.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably suggest he get the 750ti with 2gb vram and see how it runs. If it isn't smooth I will suggest he get an Athlon X4 860K. I would recommend he return it other than it is past the point that he can send it back. This is so frustrating as he could have came to me first and I would have recommended parts that would perform better for less and I would have helped him build it.

Oh well, sucks to be him.... 750ti is a safe bet as chances are the psu wont be that flash anyway. Just check the compatibily of his motherboard so it will run a 860k - should do but 'to be sure to be sure'.
