I have seen quite a few apps and even a desktop HTML java script generator (didn't work for me, plus eggs in one basket kind of thing). What is everyones preferred / stable two factor preference. Im not decided on one yet, im leaning towards something like FreeOTP from redhat for mobile, but i would like a decent desktop client incase of losing my mobile device. Anyone use a Yubi key ?
I'm a basic Windows user. I don't know much of what you are talking about here. Enough said. LOL!
to be fair its not necessarily a Linux thing, i couldn't find a generic software sub forum on here.
OPT = One Time Password. It is a dual factor authentication method where you are supplied a generated image or number from your service ( cloud, email, forums, google/apple etc.. ) and against that number the software generates the correct return number so you enter both your normal password and the one time pass number as dual auth ( instead of mobile as sms )
Yubikey does one thing and does it well, easy to setup and usage is just touching a button.
I've got a couple yubikey 4:s on my keyring, they're physically super robust, altho being a thin piece of plastic they don't bend, one has to deliberately bend it with tools if they want to break it. And they don't cost much, love 'em.
As for a FreeOTP/GAuth alike OPT manager for the desktop there's also YubiAuth https://github.com/Yubico/yubioath-desktop
Baz ,thanks for the advice ;)
