Getting ready to install an after market air cooler and I would like to know if I should use a Static Pressure fan, or an Air Flow fan?
option delta 5k rpm fan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835213001
high air flow and high pressure but loud as hell and require a fan controller
Answer is........... ignore the comment above and get a sp fan with a good silence to static pressure rating.
Noctua NF-F12
i am asumeing you have a 120mm capable cooler but you havent stated what it is
Thanks, I thought it might be better to go with an SP fan. Just wanted to make sure.
For a CPU cooler go with the SP flavor they will perform significantly better at that task, don't drink the poison coffee either Noctua is overpriced and not overly quiet. Yates loons can be had for like 5$ USD that are on par with that Noctua.
It depend on how much money you want to spend, and how quiet you would like your cooling solution to be.
I usually end up recommending Arctic Cooling or Enermax fans. They are about $10, and perform rather well while remaining fairly quiet. In terms of performance, they are roughly equal to the Noctua NF-F12, both in terms of thermal and decibel performance. Cougar fans are also great, but their PWM circuitry can be wonky.
If you don't mind a little bit of noise, Corsair SP120 fans are probably the best bang for your buck, while still being affordable.
I'm a fan of Bitfenix Spectre Pro's. They're all through my system. Excellent airflow and very little noise.
Nf-f12 all the way, when I had my aftermarket aircooler on it dropped my temps by 20C over the stock aftermarket coolers fan.
