What does the Tek recommend for Gaming Mechanical Keyboards?

Hey guys,

I love the reviews and I noticed on the vids you mention you only use Mechanical keyboards. My Logitech G110 just failed and I want to switch to a Mechanical. I would prefer to have a programable key(s) but can handle it if not. What do you guys recommend? I would prefer to not go Logitech this time but if it is the BEST option, fine. What do you recommend?

None of the good mechanical keyboards have programable keys.

As far as brands you want to be looking at Filco, Ducky, Das, Leopold or if you want a touch cheaper the CM Quickfire Pro. My personal favorite switch is the browns it feel good in games and good typing as opposed to blue which is bad in game or red/black which are awful to type on.

ok, so if I go quickfire Pro, what could I use for macro keys? Like something separate from the board?

what about the Storm Trigger?

Slightly worse quality with backlight, if that's your thing but honestly at that price I would start looking at the Ducky shine for a bit more quality.

Gaming keyboard with programables and mechanical keys. I have a Corsair K90 and it's a very nice keyboard. How ever the programable keys are rubber dome style, idk if that makes a big difference to you or not. The Logitech G710+ is highly regarded by Linus, I'm sure it's a good keyboard.

Unfortunately I think that G710+ has logitechs new rubber dome keys instead of mechinicals, they are decent quality rubber domes atleast.

Even ignoring that some keys are rubberdome (which actually doesn't seem like a problem to me) the k90 quality is meh

Before I say it, I'll start by saying that yes, some of Razer's products are complete junk.  However...

I've been using the Blackwidow Ultimate for over a year now and I absolutely love it.  I would highly recommend it for gaming.  Unlike Razer's mice, this is actually a quality built product.  Not to mention I beat the shit outta my keys when I type/game too, and it's still going strong.

Hey now I love this keyboard. She's my baby. The software isn't that good, although i haven't tried it in awhile. It was beta when I got it. I think it's a pretty solid keyboard, laser etched keys, aluminum backplate. As long as you're careful you should scratch any of the brushed aluminum. I also haven't had an LED go out yet and I've had it for well over a year now. Some people get them with LEDs out unforunately.

Here's the image on the switches that you would most likely encounter. Sorry if I had to upload to this site. Imageshack screwed up the animation. Lost the password for Imgur... -.-

i also have the Black widow ultimate, i wish it had the blue backlights but you cant have everything you want.

Nope, they're mechanical.

just go on ebay, find a mechanical keyboard with switches you like for arround 20-30 bucks. buy it. if you dont like the color, you can stain the plastic. tons of tutorials online.

ok, so i am wary of brands since i am only familiar with logitech and Microshaft and Razer. I have heard raves about the Gigabyte boards and Corsair, Coolermaster, etc. I am familiar with those companies for motherboards, and computer cases. so forgive me if i am a bit wary. I assume Brown switches are best all around. I need something reliable, functional, that wont break the bank. backlighting is nice but not required.

If you want the best bang for your buck get a Leopold you can find them on elitekeyboards and they are great build quality also the support for them is US based.

They are a big name as far as mech keyboard are concerned.
