Resolution is different from definition or image quality, The 1440p as recommended by someone , may not actually have better quality / definition than a 1080p one , may simply have a larger screen with a higher number of pixels to render.
edit to possibly save my ass: tl;dr, but it sounded stupid
I received this huge testament on a forum just because I recommended a 27" 1440p monitor to a guy that will run 780ti SLI.
If there's any fault, I think it ignores the fact that having a larger monitor can be nice, and a 1080p resolution would make the pixel density too low. Also, there's more screen real estate on 1440p as opposed to 1080p, which is relevant for those who need it. Maybe not a huge difference, but it's there.
Yes, pixel density plays a part.
On your desk, a 1440p monitor will always look better than a 1080p one.
You can pick up great 1440p monitors for around $300.
Also
Ultra HD monitors ... not worth talking about them as there is no hardware for them.
I call bullshit on that.
This isn't a theory. It's what everyone already knows about density.
What are you talking about? My 780 achieves 60 FPS in 90% of games at 1440p, with the highest textures and highest post processing. It sounds like you've never used a 1440p monitor.
Dual 780ti cards can push three 1440p monitors in a surround configuration fairly well. They can perform at 4K resolution, above 1440p.
yep my 780 is lovely at 1440p. I also think it looks much better than my old 22'' 1080p monitor.
in the end who cares do what you want. woo!
I know what's cheaper. When I emptied my bank account for some of my components, it did not feel good!
opening the boxes when they came felt oh so gooood though
