The title pretty much is my question.
Are you guys aware of the ReactOS project here at the Tek?
For anyone who's reading and doesn't know, it's an open source project that aims to become a standalone (meaning is not based on unix/linux/bsd) open source OS totally compatible with windows.
The project is still in alpha phase but a lot of apps already run on it.
It's now on indiegogo to boost the release of the 0.4 version which would move it to beta phase.

What do you guys think?
Do you find this interesting?
Do you think its worth donating?
I already did and think it would be fantastic if the project succeded.
I really hate using non free/non open software but linux sucks really hard for everyday desktop use in my opinion. And even if it didn't, a lot of people won't move because of all the softwarebase that they would be losing moving to other platform.
ReactOS is a really sweet option that allows to move to an open platform without sacrificing anything. (assuming it were "finished")
PD: inb4 hurr durr microsoft gonna shut it down, no they can't.
It uses NO code from microsoft at all. And they take the same precautions as the WINE team does (indeed a lot of code is shared between reactos and wine).
If they can take ReactOS out, they can take WINE out, and microsoft is not an open company thats happy to share, if they didnt take WINE out is because they can't legally.
I think it is definitely an ambitious project to say the least. With that said, I'm cautiously optimistic. If I could run games on an open platform, I would be ecstatic. I hate using proprietary software and I try to avoid doing so, and WINE has a lot of issues.
