My pc case currently sits on the left lower side of my computer table as that is where it is supposed to go. I do, however, have no problem having pcs on the ground which I have done many times in the past.
the ground
I have had mine racked in a 4U for the past couple of years, and recently moved it to a 5U and put on some rails. It's dreamy. I built the rack; 24U rails $50 or whatever they are on Amazon and one 4x8 sheet of maple for $35. Plus some casters, some hardware, and a little wood stain makes for a cheap but sturdy enclosure.
The only thing that suuuucks is paying a premium for anything that has rack ears. The case is nothing special but it was over $250. >:|
I have the cables run through some wall grommets for a silent room, much like Linus did in a LTT video sometime last year. It's in my laundry room but having the machine racked (hopefully) keeps it safe from floods or leaks in the water lines.
I would do this too but i spent a good amount on my case and i feel like this wouldn't compliment the color scheme i have going .
Main machine on my office wall, HTPC on the top of an audio cabinet that I have converted to a rack for a UPS, modem, router and switch. NAS to be added soonish and migration of it all to the full size garage rack.
My two rigs were in the closet, was going for the super clean look of a desk that just has monitors and peripherals, but no towers to be seen. Now its just one tower in the closet, the other is in another room on the floor now. I might want the closet space back and that will put the remaining tower back outside, on the floor- aesthetically I kind of like seeing it, but its noisy and I don't want to throw more $$ at more noctua fans trying to fix this. First world problems.
The floor, I had hardwood floors.
I was going to get an Ikea mini drawer but decided against it as then when I game my GPU will be loud next to me mic rather than on the floor
I've got this desk:
Except on my right its got an open cabinet with a shelf half-way up. I put the tower behind my center monitor, with my secondary Acer to the right of the main.
get more desk if possible
else
get more house
if too little desk then
echo "get more desk!"
else
echo "get more house!"
A very carpeted , very dry , dusty , and static prone floor. it's under a desk too so the hot air doesn't have anywhere to go :)
when it gets too loud I throw a blanket over top of it to quiet it down :)
Only one? You must really have a quiet system...
If it's just a matter of color coordinating those kind of shelves are just metal. If you spray it down with some primer you could than paint it any color you want.
I see this and all I can think of is how high your RMA rate must be on spinning rust HDD's....
Na ? Once i got rid of the seagate drives no worries. I am mostly sdd for my pcs . The bulk storage is somewhere else.
Just ontop of my desk, which is just a table.
I actually built a small platform out of 2x4's and plywood. I built it long ago and it's served me well. I'd do it a tad differently if I were to build it today, but by and large I'm happy with it.
