What do we think about Ubuntu's new Snappy thing?

http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/more-stable-future-ubuntu

So on the one hand...this is a neat idea, and should make Linux software easier to deal with for normal users (whenever I'm trying to help a newbie one of the biggest confusing things to them is ye old "Dependency not satisfiable", they're used to Windows and have a "What do you MEAN I CAN'T install that?" moment...

But on the other hand...APT is so great

Is Canonical going to make this open source and available to other distros? Are there similar FOSS projects going on? What if we just made an APT repo equivalent that was like this?

I'm not the biggest Linux guy in the world myself, but I'm kind of curious as to where this goes because based on my experience with Debian and Ubuntu, APT is pretty solid...not sure how solid this Snappy thing is going to be

There is already a thread about this:
