Hey i need to upgrade as i currently have an AMD bulldozer which isnt really up to speed but i am a little low on money but i really want something around the same speed as an i7 what can i get that doesnt cost as much as an i7
xeon 1230 v3, that is what you are pointing at.
It is essentially a i7 4770 without the IGP and slightly lower clockspeed.
Get a Xeon or a 4670k if you want to overclock, alternatively you can grab an 8350.

There's always the FX 8350. Since as you already have AMD it might save you from getting another mobo although 4770 is very good its overkill and so is the price. The FX 8350 performs the same as an I7/i5 3570k in most games and in quite a few games beats it. In my opinion it depends on the games you are planning to play. I ended up getting an FX 8350 and its a beast. But then i remembered that the games i play atm * World of tanks) is a single core CPU based game at its current state * its not getting multicore support for a few months but it will be worth it* and at the moment the i5 can get 10-15 fps more in WOT but then in other better optimised/ encoded games the 8350 can destroy as it has multithreading unlike the i5 which is also £40 more.( Intel can be a joke at times)
All in all for the price FX 8350 is a good choice especially if you plan on overclocking in the future. But if you have the money the 4770k or Xeon are also up there if you play single core based games id say go intel for the moment. ;) Hope this helps
