I just listened to Bennie and the Jets by Elton John.

It just struck me that I was born in 1980, and I am more familiar with popular music from befor4e my birth than I am with anything contemporary, or indeed anything released after the late 90’s.

I think I completely checked out of any and all new music in 2007-2008 some time. The last new songs I remember actually liking and/or paying attention to were MGMT’s “Kids” (2007) and Cut Copy’s “Lights and Music” (2008)

I’d probably struggle to actually name any new bands formed after that, or really any music at all released after that

Hey - I like me some NIN, Eve 6 and all that, but this song has my mind right now:

Been listening to the new Sabrina Carpenter album since it dropped. Favorite song on the album has been on repeat this whole week https://youtu.be/V9vuCByb6js

New song from Gogol Bordello.

The Youtube algorithm know me too well.

I found an mp3 without a name an id3 tag that I had downloaded some time. I didn’t really recognise the voice to begin with, but when I heard the guitar I knew who it was.

2004 called, it wants Mike Skinner back.

And as always, if you haven’t heard the full A grand don’t come for free you should, it’s a brilliant story.

Not really metal, though they started that way.

A shitload of polyphia

New song from Ladytron.

Then the Youtube algorithm gave me Nyx Division. What if Peter Hook was the bass player in The Cult.

I dig that! The first song I was reminded of was “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” even before reading that you mentioned Peter Hook.

Edit: Second thought was White Lies:

Is this the appropriate post for this question?

I want to ditch spotify, I am done with subscriptions. I am looking for an android/linux compatible music client to utilize moving forward? I am currently testing Rhythmbox but would appreciate recommendations on other options
