Wendell's Video about Synology Surveillance Questions

I presently have cameras from arlo and am paying a month subscription. I would like to get that out of the picture since the comings out about eufy cameras. I feel it is not worth it and lately I have been having intermittent internet issues that dont allow me to watch the cameras when the internet is out. So I am thinking about doing a self hosted solution and to tunnel in with tailscale for remote access. But I have a few questions.

I already have 100tb in my synology, instead of buying surveillance specific drives, would I be fine using my ssd pool or my nas drives (wd reds)?

I probably dont want to record 24/7 but when motion is detected. Are the synology cameras and the software used by synology capable of doing this instead of 24/7 recording? How smart is it, for instance i can filter animal motion from a person or vehicle or package with arlo. Is this possible with any self hosted solution?

Is it possbile to have tailscale at one location connecting to another location that have two separate internet connection? Basically two households and synology is at my house and say a relative has cameras too. So they can also have their recordings stored on my nas?

Reds are fine. Separate internet connection are also fine
