Wendell (and anyone else who wants to help),
I have an FX 6300 machine that I've been running Proxmox on, and it works great. The only problem (I was a little clueless when I built this) is that I have a single WD Blue 1TB drive in it with EVERYTHING on it. Most of my really important VMs are backed up to my laptop in a VZDUMP image, but I'd like to have a better solution to keeping the data safe.
I had been looking at just getting a WD red drive and putting the two in RAID 1, but I wasn't sure if RAIDing a 7200rpm and a 5400rpm drive was a good idea. I know my best option as far as RAID 1 is a WD Re drive, but they're kind of pricey and my data isn't THAT important. I really just need a solution so that when a drive dies I can buy a new one, install Proxmox, and import my images of VMs off another one.
Wendell, I was wondering what drives you use in your Proxmox machine(s)? Also, can I use a small SSD (a cheap 64 or 128GB one) for cache to make things extra snappy?
Thanks!
