Wendell read this

So I'm in my senior year of high school and i want to know how you got to running the show here: (site)

because I want to do the same sort of work out of college, so more specifically let me ask this:

What did you study in college?

what skills do I need to acquire?

how do I start up a business like you did?

and is there anything I should not do?

also if thats not you in the link there please disregard my questions and inform me what you do if you dont mind.

Thanks,

-Bagel

Experience, getting to know everyone, knowing what kind of demand the world needs, have the "can-and-will-do" ability, studying in the business and IT area and starting from the bottom. Remember, the world is a very, very competitive game, so you must be able to stabilise your firm at all costs. One slip and all of it goes down the drain.

yet should i go computer science and communication design or computer science and something else for college?

Do you know what will you do in the 1st degree you said since it's CompSci (like the 2nd one) but with communication design, which the latter is what I'm interested in. You do need to look up in each degree carefully first. There are alot of thoughts that needs to be considered carefully in your career.

This kind of topic has been very hot lately and it's best to look at the previous threads, as there could be a question in particular that has already been answered.

What did you study in college?

Pure Computer Science, Physics

what skills do I need to acquire?

All of them. CS is usually an hours-heavy major. It is not useful by itself. Take less classes and intern. In high school, I did vocational school one year and learned how to run a mill, be an electrician and do some light plumbing. Best experience ever. Esp. the machine shop.

The most important thing is that you will get a lot out of your CS education if you have applicable real-world experience while being educated. Out-of-context learning nothing sticks and your brain doesn't organize it right anyway.

how do I start up a business like you did?

Ehh, its a long story. Don't expect to. You probably can't right away. My first job was when I was 13. I worked all through school, too. You'll want to take some business classes and maybe think about doing some MBA classes after you have some real world experiences.

and is there anything I should not do?

Try to find a work-play balance, but you will need discipline in all things large and small in life. In the army they do a thing where they make you read a newspaper at like 5:00 am, then you have to work for an hour cleaning and tidying the bunk, then you have breakfast then they physically abuse you for about 8 or 9 hours in the form of 10+ mile treks in the mud. then you have dinner and they ask you to recall things from the newspaper. This type of exercise is very important. Strive to better than you are, and to elevate your skills. You will surprise yourself. If you make breakfast every morning, improve the process each morning until you have the process down to a fine art. There is a danger in letting your brain go on autopilot with chores like this and you will do yourself no greater disservice than letting your brain go on autopilot because you cease being an artisan and become an automaton.

Whether you are level 1 or level 99 at a task, seek crafsmanship in all things you do.
