Well my first build has been a disaster

I finally got my computer working the other week, I get to play games for a day then I change the frequency of my ram to what it should be, 1600mhz, and everything goes tits up, computer wont post, same problem I had before except this time I cant fix it, I have tried everything ( I made another thread about it the other day) but I have given up now. I assume it's the motherboard and not the ram as the mobo doesn't even beep now as it did before...

So I package my motherboard away so I can get it replaced, turns out the cardboard bit that holds the motherboard in is missing so I dont know if I can send that back, if I cant and the mobo doesn't work then I'm screwed completely.

The only slither of hope I have is, I had the same problem as this before, the motherboard wouldn't beep and wouldn't post, somehow I got it all working and I'm not sure how but this time I know exactly what caused the problem.

clrcmos doesn't work?

and if your missing that piece, make a new one out of like styrofoam or something... or carefully stuff newspaper in to support it. and make sure the socket cap is on.

I tried resetting cmos with jumper pins, leaving the battery out for an hour, with everything unplugged, no difference.

What do you mean socket cap? I'm not sure what and where that is on the motherboard?

He's talking about the little plastic piece that covered up the CPU socket when you first got the board. You should be able to send it back. If clear cmos isn't working then it's probably a bad board.

I don't remember any plastic piece on the cpu socket that's odd, well yeah I'll try to send it back, if they reject it i'll rebuild my computer one more time and test, if that fails I will take it to a repair shop to see if they can do anything at all. My very last resort is spending the £60 I was gonna buy a monitor with on a new motherboard...

If he's using an AMD board there is no plastic cap, AMD puts the connection pins on the cpu itself and not the mobo socket, thus no need for a cap.
