Weird problem with laptop

I'll keep this short as it seems to be okay now and I want to go to bed!
About 20 minutes ago, my Advent Torino X100 laptop started making a loud clicking noice! At first I decided to put it to sleep but when I tried, nothing happened! I did this a couple of times. Then I did CTRL, ALT, DEL and all I got was a black screen with the words: Please Wait. After several minutes (and a trip to the bathroom,) I hit the power switch and turned the system off. Gave it a minute and while it booted up, it seemed a bit slower than usual. I ran Crystal Disk Info and that shows the Hard Drive to be healthy.
My laptop seems fine now! But I was just wodering IF anyone has had something like that happen to them???
Cheers all you good peeps!!!

I have a list of laptop-"functions"...
...was not on it.
Back-Up your important files for now.

Click of death. Good old dying hard drive issue. Back up files and do an error scan on your drive.

06:55am Wednesday 2nd December. Here is a screenshot I just took of Crystal Disk Info. Seems fine!

I am from England. Here is some info on my laptop! :O)

You better back it up (your data I mean)

Its weird though, because there is no clicking this morning[?]
In the future and after I have got my deskop built, I might get an SSD and replace the Toshiba, and have the laptop as a Linux machine?! Regarding backing up. I use OneDrive (though with my desktop, once built, I will backup onsite, using external drives.

P.S. Not sure who Lana is?! :O)

Its weird and funny as I have been building PC's since 1995 and yet, I'm not that hot (shall we say) when it comes to the OS (any os for that matter!) That's why once I have the desktop built, I will be using that as a workhorse to learn programming and the command line. [You] can leave me in a room with a table of hardware (CPU, Hard Drives, ssd's, motherboard etc.,) and I can have a system up and running in a couple of hours! Yet, sitting down at a PC and using it like a power user???? Not so good!!!

I'll have to look up Archer and have a butchers hook (look) :O)
I feel the same as you @skyguide when it comes to servers. Though I have not had the chance to get my hands on any server hardware. I do however, watch youtube video's regading servers! One day and just for the hell of it, I'd like to build myself a server! I'd get a case like this one: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk-value-3u-standard-chassis-10-x-3.5-hdd-bays-oc-33380b-sa-000-ok.html

Yeah, I've had my eye on Supemicro for quite some time now. Certain names just stand out. Pared with a Xeon, that will be a nice 'little' project for me!!! :O)
Have you ever build yourself a server @skyguide ??? (Or plan too)?

If you want to trust it go ahead? Nothing stops a drive from deciding to die mechnically and not have it show up in the SMART data, it's not a know all end all, drive will not report an issue it does not have sensors or data on.

Just as long as it gets me into January! Then I'll be getting my desktop built! :O)

Ah, my idea of Heaven!!! :O)

Again, if you trust it, go for it. If there is no data that you really need on there, there is no issue, but you've been warned. The drive is nearing the end of the normal life cycle of a drive (according to the power on count). This drive has been running for a few years, so yeah.

Yeah, I've nothing important on the drive. Photo's and my Zweihänder Ear Sayer album, are on OneDrive. This laptop is just for general stuff, though as I mentioned before, I might get an ssd for it and use it as a Linux machine. :O)

I'm fairly sure that Advent is essentially PC World's brand of prebuilt systems. PC World is a huge computer and electronics retailer in the UK, in case you didn't know!

Just found this. :O)

At least you get super cheap prices on PC components. Stuff is pretty expensive here in the UK and even more expensive elsewhere in Europe. I quite like going into Maplin, another electronics retailer in the UK, just for all of the Arudino boards and electrical components.

I guess it probably plays a role in the price of components but if you look at northern Europe, like Sweden for example, stuff is ridiculously more expensive compared to the rest of Europe.

yep got 6 HDDs with the same problem Click of Death. Backup everything important to you ASAP!
