Weird Heatsink Noise

My CPU heatsink is making a really werid noise.

Here is a audio clip of it.  There's a lot of white noise but you can easily hear it if you turn it up https://dl.dropbox.com/u/96816/Pics2Share/Memo.m4a

I talked to a Intel represetitive who told me to reseat the heatsink.  Do you think this will help?  Any other suggestions on what I should do?

Also, what does reseating involve?  Do I need thermal paste?

Thanks

I like it, its got a good rythm to it.

Sounds like something rubbing or maby the fan is off center. Reseating it may help.

Does have a good rhythm, but i have no idea what could be causing this.

What does reseating involve?

pushing the fan in the middle to re-center it... sometimes the fans shift a few degrees and when they spin up they're off balance.. by re-centering it making it balanced it will probably cancel the noise. sounds like it is shooting laser beams though.. lol pew pew pew

its an alien transmission!  O.O

Sounds like a bad bearing, I would suggest swapping the cooler for an aftermarket one.

I plan on getting a H80 sometime next year but I'm going to be using this until I have the money for the H80.

Until then I have to live with this.

UPDATE

I pushed all the pins in and reseated the fan however now I am getting higher CPU temps.  I used to get about 65 celsuis on my hottest core when video encoding.  Now I get 72 on 3 cores.  What should I do now, have I done something wrong?

Reseating didn't help.  It still makes the noise.

replace the fan, it should have gotten better not worse.. it's not worth frying your cpu over a 7 dollar fan.

The H80 isn't the greatest, it's overpriced for the performance. Have a look at the NZXT Havik reviewed today, very nice cooler for the money. Even a more mainstream cooler for $25 will be more appropriate for your current situation. You need to get something and soon if your duff cooler kills your PC. A bad bearing in the CPU cooler is a warning to go out to the shop, buy a new cooler and fit in the next couple of days! that or turn off your computer till you can get it sorted...

I live in New Zealand.  The range of parts avaliable here isn't amazing.  The Havik isn't avaliable here :(

Been talking to Intel Support and they are sending me a replacement fan.  Thanks for the help!
