Weird behavior?

Ok, this has never happened before so I'm just going to explain it exactly the way that it happened and with as much details as possible. 1. I transitioned from windows vista to windows 7. 2. During the windows 7 installation there was a power outage. 3. I managed to get another installation going. 4. successful install 5. Strange behavior from windows 7. There are security updates that won't install. I couldn't install msft security essentials. The only anti-malware program that works is malwarebytes. The weirdest thing is that when I go to reinstall windows 7 I get a blue screen after windows loads files. I even swapped out the hard drive and the same exact error message shows up. It is c100021a and 0xc0000221 and something else. (I don't remember) I am using the same computer right now. I have no choice. I need to know what is going on. I have found no help on any forums and I don't know if it is a bios virus or something shorted out that shouldn't have.

Oh and I also keep getting these random pop ups asking me if I want to save a file or open it. I didn't download anything. It's the same pop up every time. The next time it happens I'll take a screenshot.

Where did you get this copy of windows 7?

The first one I got from a link in a youtube video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyUPm9rmyo4) The second iso file I downloaded was from a friend.

I don't know where he got it.

-facepalm- don't download things from youtube. The second one I think is ok, I assume you can trust your friends. As far as I know there is no such thing as a bios virus, although I do remember hearing a couple years ago about a virus that installed on the flash memory of the motherboard, but didn't do much because of how small it was. I think the pop up has something to do with the crack for the OS. Is the OS activated?

As far as the blue screen goes for the re install, are you doing clean installs?

The first installation failed, of course. When the power came back on I turned the pc back on. It is crucial to note that I used setup.exe in windows vista for the initial installation. The second was from a usb. I turned the pc back on and I had 3 different options to boot from: Windows 7, Windows rollback or something(all it did was get past the boot menu and turn off), and Windows vista. When I used the usb to install, the boot menu automatically selected windows 7 from the list. It finished installing from the first install attempt.

Before I used the usb to install if I selected win7 or vista from the list it would go to "setup is loading files" and restart the pc claiming that there was an unexpected shutdown.

Ok. Try this, Create a new partition in windows vista, at least 30-40 gigs. Then install W7 from the usb to that partition and see how it runs.

Bios viruses are rare, but it is the only explanation on the strange behavior and the reason that malwarebytes won't pick anything up. Vista was cracked. I haven't activated win7 yet.

Ok. I'll check back in 20.

Ok. There was no other partition. I did a clean install of windows 7.

Also, when I swapped out the hard drive for a clean hard drive, I got the same exact blue screen.

I think I'll flash the bios, and plug in a blank hard drive. Then I'll install windows 8. I have a copy of that. The only reason I went with win7 in the first place was because I liked the appearance better. If the issues persist I'll post on this again.

If you have a bios virus then flashing your bios should overwrite it. I am thinking maybe you got a corrupt iso file as well. Download a new iso file with a different crack and try again.

Yeah...I think my days of cracking windows installations is done, lol. I just got a job and I'll be in college in the fall. The only reason I cracked windows vista is because I needed it for school.

lol seems reasonable. I am waiting on windows 9. Will be my first real windows purchase.

April 2015? I think I can wait for that. I just bought windows 8. Miscrosoft is probably going to give a free upgrade to windows 8 users or, at least, an upgrade so cheap that you can't afford not to buy it.
