First off, I haven't torn my webcam open and analyzed it, but I was wondering if anyone was familiar with how the indicators operate in the models you own. I was watching a convention about encryption called the Frontiers of Cybersecurity Policy and Law, hosted in the University of Austin TX (for those interested) where the point was made that the FBI can hack webcams without the LED turning on. This would mean the LED is software controlled, and I find that rather perplexing considering a simple power circuit change could fix that problem.
If anyone is more familiar with these things, what advantages would a software controlled LED have for a device with one function. It's not a cell phone that can use the LED for many things. It really just indicates that the camera is in use. So wouldn't it be better to just have the LED draw from the same current as the camera? Surely the camera isn't constantly drawing power from the USB port at all times right?
And if so, the Tek should sell FBI proof webcams along with their gaming mice lol.
