Webcam not working

Webcam not working in Ubuntu 20.04 or manjaro xfce 20 or manjaro gnome.
On the gnome distros I get a black picture in cheese but the light on my laptop webcam comes on. Xfce I can’t get any joy at all.
My laptop is a 2017 razer blade 14
Very new to Linux, would love some help getting this problem sorted.
Thanks.
Tay

Some systems even when linux is installed may not work with the webcam you have.
Ive noticed on E machines while running mint my giga-ware camera wouldn’t work at all, but a logitek would.
on my dell laptop the logitek wouldn’t work but the giga-ware would.
and on my hp gaming machine I cant get any webcam to work at all.
earlier linux distros had problems finding the webcams and you had to search out compatible ones.
of the ones ive seen work consistently are pinguy, moonos, mxlinux, and peppermint 10
there are a few more but its a matter of finding rolling and l.t.s. distros

Thanks Gnuuser, I’ve done a bit more Googling and it seems that people have been having similar problems with razer laptops webcam all the way back to 2014. On multiple distributions. I won’t hold up hope of getting it fixed, is there a good list of external wecams that are compatible with Linux?

Most are actually doing just fine. Pretty sure all Logitech webcams are supported, at least the popular ones are. The problem right now won’t be to find the right model for linux but getting one that’s not 3x of it’s original retail price.
